Did you fall for the FaceBook scam?
A message from a friend, starting with, “Hi….I actually got another friend request from you yesterday…” Then the message tells you to, “forward this to all your friends.”
So you forwarded a message to all your friends saying: “I got another friend request from you…”
But did you actually get a friend request from them? Probably not. Instead you just participated in spreading spam.
If you did fall for this trick, do not feel bad. Lots of people fell for it. My Facebook newsfeed is full of people panicking.
PLEASE see this as an opportunity to LEARN.
If you receive a message like this, here is how to respond:
- DO NOT PANIC. Do not over-react. Slow down, breathe, re-read the message. Does it even make sense?
- If you see the words “forward this to all your friends,” DO NOT FORWARD THIS TO ANYONE! Thank you.
- If someone says, “your account has been hacked,” DO NOT PANIC. Look around. You are currently logged on to your account, after all. Does it feel like your account was hacked? If anything, go change your password just in case.
- If someone says, “I received a friend request from a fake you.” Ask your friend for a link the fake profile. If it is indeed a fake version of you, then report the profile. You can also search your name on FB to see if there is someone out there impersonating you.
STOP panicking.
Take time to verify if the message you received is TRUE.
Please STOP forwarding messages to all your friends.
