The Bow-Tique

The Bow-Tique

I acquired a collection of headbands back when Monkey was a baby. I also made lots of bows to clip on her headbands. I went a little overboard and made 2 of every color/pattern.

I could have attached the bows to the headbands, but I preferred to mix-n-match, as well as have the option of wearing them as barrettes

Recently, Monkey’s littler sister, PipSqueak got a BAHA hearing aid, which is worn on a soft headband. Her headband likes to slide down her forehead, or pop off the back of her head. We are constantly fixing it, which makes her hair look crazy. Apparently headbands sliding off is a common problem.

One non-slip solution is to clip a barrette to the headband, and her hair. Not only does that hold the headband in place, it also flattens her baby-fine hair which would otherwise be sticking straight up.

I already had a lot of Button Bows and Mini Bows, but one can never have too many bows. Right? So I quickly used up all the extra ribbons and buttons in my entire house, making even more Button Bows to clip on PipSqueak’s headband, in attempt to make the headband look cute match every outfit.

velvet non-slip bowI was afraid I was going to scratch her head with the barrette, so I covered it in velvet ribbon, which makes the barrette non-slip too. It maybe it bit over-kill, but it works!

BAHA kids wear headbands all day, every day, so we moms want their headbands to be practical, and comfortable, and match multiple outfits. But I also want to add lots of variety to our lives!

I spend my time making Custom Softbands and Accessories for Ponto, AdHear and Baha hearing devices. I am also a published author. I wanted our daughter to see herself represented in a story - a little girl who has facial differences and wears BAHA hearing aids. The book grew to include some of our friends who are all so wonderfully different. My first book, “Wonderfully Different, Wonderfully Me” features a diverse group of children and celebrates each child’s unique strengths. All children can see themselves in at least one of the characters, whether they look similar, or have the same interests or personality. "Wonderfully Different, Wonderfully Me" is the children's book that belongs in every household and classroom, to promote inclusion, acceptance, and friendship.
